Ever since the introduction in 1956, Volvo had enjoyed great success with the Amazon range, also know as the 121\/122 series. It had earned a reputation as being reliable and tough, as well as a joy for the eye. In fact the drivability and robustness of the car made it very popular for motorsport, and the Amazon participated in all kind of racing from track race to rallying. The Dane Jens Nielsen who had participated in Rallye Monte Carlo 28 times, also made the race in a 123 GT. Up untill 1966 the most sporty Amazon was the 122S, but in 1967 Volvo decided to pinpoint the sporty image of the Amazon, hereby introducing the 123 GT version. Based on the 122S, but upgraded with the most powerfull avaible Volvo engine, the B18B from the P1800S with 115 bhp, equiped with twin SU carburators and open filters, giving the car a characteristic and sporty engine sound. It was also fitted with the mandatory extras like high power beams, rev-counter, GT steering wheel, a.s.o. The rearaxle was fitted with LSD, and the gearbox got an electrical operated overdrive. The car was fast and cruises easily 140 km\/h on the highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Type number 133951 , chassis number 246436 was sold new in 1967 in The Netherlands. Original color was and still is ruby red 46. Mileage is beleived to be 144.000 KM. A true pleasure to drive, everything work as it should. Body and mechanic is stong, and the car would be a perfect candidate for the next Monte Carlo Historique or other classic racing event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
