Aston Martin DBS V8 - 1971

Aston Martin DBS V8 - 1971

The Aston Martin DBS was the last of the David Brown Astons. The modern transatlantic fastback design was launched in 1967 with the well proven 4 liter in-line 6 cylinder engine from the earlier DB6 and wire wheels.  The DBS proved a little underpowered and in 1969 the Tadek Marek designed 5.3 liter V8 from Astons 1967 Le Mans entry was finally ready. The 345 bhp quad cam alloy engine with Bosch fuel injection made the DBS V8 one of the world's fastest cars in series production. Also alloy wheels were fitted as the wire wheels from the 6-cylinder DBS was not considered strong enough to cope with the V8 massive torque in combination with the heavier car.

Only 402 cars, often referred to as the Series 1 DBS V8, were produced from 1969 to 1972. From 1973 its characteristic front grille with the incorporated 4 headlamps was changed and to a simpler 2 headlamp design that was to remain practically unchanged from 1973 to 1989 on the later cars simply named Aston Martin V8.

The Series 1 DBS V8 was an important model in Astons history and with its clean lines it ranks among the more sought after models. This 1971 DBS with chassis number 10306 was sold new in the UK and came to Denmark as late as 2007.

The car has a comprehensive service and maintenance history and comes with a lot of invoices, many from Aston specialist Trinity Engineering in Cobham, Surrey. All though a full restoration was never carried out, it has been subject to several expensive jobs including a complete rebuild of the automatic transmission in 1997, a later complete engine rebuild together with work on body and interior. This means that this car has patina in several areas as interior, paint etc.

It is however a very nice original car with all mechanics in very good condition that will ensure many enjoyable miles in the years to come. It now has Danish registration (UK V5 still present) and it is, with no further import tax, customs or VAT to pay, ready for import and registration in any European Union member state.
