Jaguar E-Type 4.2 – 1970

The E-Type was maybe not quite as fast as a contemporary Ferrari, not quite as posh as an Aston and probably not quite as well built as a Mercedes. When it came to combine most of these virtues in one significantly lower priced sports car, the E-Type was however in a league of its own. With the E-Type Jaguar condensed all their fame and glory from the their rich racing heritage with the C og D types into one fast and drop-dead gorgeous looking sports car. The iconic E-Type has become a symbol of the 1960’es and is by many considered the sexiest car ever built.

The biggest market for the E-Type was the United States were also this example sold new. In 1987 the car came to Europe and in 1992 a “nut & bolt” restoration began. The car was taken completely apart with frame and tub blasted, primed and painted in British Racing Green. The engine was sent to Jaguar specialist engine builder VSE in Wales for a complete rebuild and assembly to full European configuration with higher compression, new camshafts and triple SU carburetors so the output is now up to the full 265 BHP. Restoration ended in 2005 at cost of more than £50.000. In 2010 the owner took the last step of fitting a high ratio 3.07:1 rear differential together with new rear radius arms at a cost of £5.000. We have all the invoices that totals more than £60.000 to document the restoration of this car.

This very straight and matching numbers 4.2 Roadster is still in immaculate condition after only summer use. All those small details and adjustments that follows a complete restoration has been sorted out and this E-Type drives superb.
